A paramedic has been injured after crashing a response vehicle into a bus shelter while answering a 999 call.

The driver of the paramedic response vehicle and a pedestrian at the Renfrewshire bus shelter suffered minor injuries in the incident.

A Paramedic has been suspended after he was spotted inhaling laughing gas while driving an emergency vehicle. Nigel Moore, Team Leader, seen with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the laughing gas, who had 26 years experience, is suspended for one year.

Following the day of action on the 30th November 2011, I would like to place on record my thanks and appreciation to all the Reps. and members who made the day a success. It was great to see so many people on the picket lines, which ensured the public got the message that members are unhappy with the Government's proposals on pensions. The way in which staff conducted themselves throughout the day was superb.

I would particularly like to thank those Senior Reps. who remained on duty for the whole of the 24 hours, answering queries from members and challenging Managers when necessary. Without them the day would not have been such a success. I am not aware of any other Branch that had the quality of support from their Senior Reps. on the day, as the WMAS Reps. gave their members.

Regards,

Ray Salmon.

I want to take this opportunity to write to you ahead of our pensions strike on 30 November: I know this is a big step for every UNISON member, and not one we take lightly.

First off - a great big thank you to everyone for the tremendous ballot result which saw a clear mandate for Wednesday's action. I know that was a decision which required a lot of thought and courage from so many members.

Dave Prentis, General Secretary, UNISON
