Ambulance bosses have awarded themselves pay rises of more than 100 per cent, just weeks after the future of a Berwick emergency ambulance was threatened.

Pay rises go to the seven non-executive directors of the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. The chairman will now earn £44,000, up from £18,896, whilst other directors will now earn between £14,000 and £17,000, up from £6,096.
